About Swampscott
map
Swampscott Massachusetts is a small scenic seaside community located north of Boston and is home to a large number of commuters who board the train each morning from one of the last remaining Victorian style depots in the country.

There are actually many other interesting and historic buildings situated in Swampscott. They include Marian Court once known as White court which was the summer residence of Calvin A. Coolidge and a Georgian style town hall which was the former home of Elihu Thompson who was the founder of the General Electric Company.

Swampscott beaches attract visitors of all ages who enjoy their refreshing ocean breezes. Fisherman's Beach provides a picturesque view of Swampscott Harbor with its many brightly colored fishing vessels and pleasure boats. Swampscott is responsible for two major contributions to the fishing industry-the Swampscott dory and the lobster pot. These are both still used by fishermen world wide.

ExoMed Conference

WHAT IF THE NEXT BREAKTHROUGH IN MEDICINE
ISN'T ON THE PLANET EARTH?

Life on earth evolved from simple single cell organisms into complex multi-cell life forms over billons of years by adapting to the ever-changing environment on our planet. Through all these changes, one thing has remained constant, the force of Earth’s gravity. In all living organisms, their up-down and left-right asymmetry, structural strength, size and shape of force-producing elements, sensory systems and how they age have evolved with a constant compass, 1g force.

What if we subtract that 1g force? Would cells/organisms live shorter or longer, would they become structurally stronger or weaker, would they develop more or less disease, would medications we use to treat disease have more or less effect? In the vast majority of cases the answers here are…we simply don’t know.

The 2015 ExoMed™ Conference will center on the expanding field of Exomedicine - The R&D and commercialization of medical solutions in the microgravity environment of space for applications on Earth. With the rapid advancement of micro-technologies and greatly expanded access to space, we now have an unprecedented opportunity to study and undertake novel R&D involving living organisms and disease processes in microgravity.

Join scientists, space professionals, investors and entrepreneurs for an interactive discussion about ideas, findings and experience related to microgravity research on the International Space Station (ISS). Topics will include: neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis, regenerative medicine, etc.
