Swampscott Massachusetts is a small scenic seaside community located north of Boston and is home to a large number of commuters who board the train each morning from one of the last remaining Victorian style depots in the country.
There are actually many other interesting and historic buildings situated in Swampscott. They include Marian Court once known as White court which was the summer residence of Calvin A. Coolidge and a Georgian style town hall which was the former home of Elihu Thompson who was the founder of the General Electric Company.
Swampscott beaches attract visitors of all ages who enjoy their refreshing ocean breezes. Fisherman's Beach provides a picturesque view of Swampscott Harbor with its many brightly colored fishing vessels and pleasure boats. Swampscott is responsible for two major contributions to the fishing industry-the Swampscott dory and the lobster pot. These are both still used by fishermen world wide.
How State Government Works: Q & A with Massachusetts State Legislators
What better way to prepare for AHEM’s State House Day than an in-district, face-to-face meeting with Massachusetts State Legislators!
State Senator Thomas McGee (D, Third Essex) and State Representative Lori Ehrlich (D, Eighth Essex) will be on hand to talk with homeschooling constituents from any Massachusetts district about all aspects of state government. This is an excellent opportunity to get answers to questions such as “What is the different between a senator and a representative?”, “How are state laws passed?”, “What issues are you working on at the State House?” and many more.
FREE but preregistration is required. Space is limited. Registrants will receive exact location and directions about a week before the event.
Participants will be added to the Friends of AHEM list unless they specifically opt out.
IMPORTANT: If you sign up for this event, please do your best to attend. Remember:
When you sign up, you are reserving a spot that then cannot be given to someone else.
It is disrespectful of our host and reflects poorly on all homeschoolers when we reserve space, and a large part of our group doesn’t attend the event.
If you sign up and do not show up, AHEM reserves the right to no longer treat your reservation request on a first come, first served basis for future AHEM events, only assigning you a spot should there be room after the deadline has been met.
